OpenAI Streamlines ChatGPT for Increased Directness and Conciseness

OpenAI has rolled out a significant upgrade for its viral AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT.

The company announced today that premium ChatGPT users, including those on ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise plans, now have access to an updated and enhanced version of GPT-4 Turbo, one of the models powering the conversational experience.

This new model, named “gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09,” boasts improvements in various areas such as writing, math, logical reasoning, and coding, according to OpenAI. It also comes with a more current knowledge base, having been trained on publicly available data up to December 2023. This is a contrast to the previous edition of GPT-4 Turbo available in ChatGPT, which had a cut-off in April 2023.

OpenAI states that when interacting with ChatGPT using the new GPT-4 Turbo, responses will be more concise, less verbose, and employ a more conversational tone.

The update to ChatGPT arrives shortly after the recent launch of new models in OpenAI’s API, including GPT-4 Turbo with Vision, which integrates image understanding capabilities with the text-based GPT-4 Turbo.

However, OpenAI has faced criticism recently. Reports from The Intercept revealed that Microsoft presented OpenAI’s DALL-E text-to-image model as a potential tool for the U.S. military. Additionally, according to The Information, OpenAI terminated two researchers, including an ally of chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, for allegedly leaking information.
