Malaysian beauty queen loses crown after Thailand holiday video goes viral

Published:

A Malaysian beauty queen, Viru Nikah Terinsip, had her title revoked after a video surfaced on social media showing her dancing during a holiday in Thailand. Terinsip, 24, had previously won the Unduk Ngadau Johor title in 2023.

The viral video depicted her engaging in what was described as “suggestive dancing with scantily clad male performers,” sparking widespread criticism.

Hours before Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan announced the decision to strip her of the crown, Terinsip voluntarily surrendered her title, as reported by Independent.

Kitingan stated, “This would not have been an issue if she were just an ordinary individual.” He confirmed the decision, expressing concern about attracting unwanted attention to the association. “We hope she accepts this decision gracefully. Let this be a lesson for all Unduk Ngadaus to avoid similar mistakes,” he emphasized.

In response, Terinsip released a video on social media expressing her willingness to relinquish the title “with honor and humility.” She emphasized that her decision was voluntary and stemmed from her own reflection. “The title is not everything. It’s about self-belief and self-worth,” she stated.

Acknowledging her imperfections, Terinsip thanked those who offered support and urged everyone to focus on other matters. She also requested privacy for her family and friends, emphasizing the sincerity of her message. “Thank you for understanding,” she concluded.
